Frances has her wish for a new bed granted
/in Fulfilled WishesFrances Kryl, 85, a resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, had her wish for a twin bed and bedding granted, thanks to our Allegheny County chapter. Kryl did not have a safe, comfortable place to sleep and wished for a new bed but could not afford one on her fixed income. Having a new bed will greatly improve her quality of life!
Amber Court Assisted Living residents cheer on activities director in pageant
/in Fulfilled WishesTwenty residents from Amber Court Assisted Living had their wish for transportation to see Ginger Bonner, their activities director, compete in the Ms. New York Senior America pageant on May 5, 2024 granted, thanks to our Long Island chapter. Bonner has been the activities director at Amber Court for over 26 years. She is a finalist in the Ms. New York Senior America pageant and the residents wanted to see her compete in person, but they could not afford transportation to the pageant on their own.
Larry’s wish to see the Pirates play one more time is granted
/in Fulfilled WishesLarry Pilarski, a resident of Sharpsburg, Pennsylvania, had his wish to take his family to a Pirates game granted, thanks our Allegheny County chapter and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Pilarski, 70, has been battling cancer for over ten years. This past year has taken its toll on him, and he can no longer walk and is very weak. Pilarski is now in hospice care and his one wish is to take his family to a Pirates game and sit behind home plate. Pilarski worked as a steamfitter in a power plant for many years and still lives with his wife of 40 years in the home in Sharpsburg that he was raised in. He, his wife, three children and grandchildren attended the Pirates game on May 5, 2024. Thank you to ameriCARE Pittsburgh for facilitating this wish and the Pittsburgh Pirates for donating the tickets for the game, a jersey and other memorabilia.
Jennie celebrates her 106th birthday!
/in Fulfilled WishesJennie Pyszkowski, a resident of West Haven, Connecticut, had her wish to attend a party for her 106th birthday granted, thanks to our Connecticut chapter. Pyszkowski is in hospice care and wheelchair bound. Connecticut Hospice and her family members hosted a party for her 106th birthday but needed assistance with transportation to get her to the party. Thanks to the Connecticut chapter and the generosity of Nutmeg State Financial Credit Union, her wish was granted on Sunday, April 21, 2024.
Dwight has his wish for a laptop and furniture granted
/in Fulfilled WishesDwight Mitchell, 73, a resident of North Braddock, Pennsylvania, had his wish for a laptop and furniture granted, thanks to our Allegheny County chapter. Mitchell lost all his belongings in a flood and could not afford to replace them on his fixed income. Thanks to our Allegheny County chapter, his wish was granted!
Mary’s favorite meal from Red Lobster was brought to her facility
/in Fulfilled WishesMary Fowler, 86, a resident of Westmoreland Manor in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, had her wish for a dinner from Red Lobster granted, thanks to our Westmoreland County chapter. Fowler and her late sister shared a love of seafood and often ate at Red Lobster. She has been missing both her sister and their meals together. The Westmoreland County chapter arranged for her favorite seafood meal to be brought into her facility and she was delighted!
Gina’s wish for a pet parakeet is granted!
/in Fulfilled WishesGina Mastrangelo, a resident of The Retreat in Hartford, Connecticut, recently had her wish for a pet parakeet granted, thanks to our Connecticut chapter. Mastrangelo, 71, recently moved into The Retreat and misses the home and pet birds she shared with her late husband. Having a pet parakeet will bring joy to her life and give her purpose.
Joyce’s wish for a new bed and bedding is granted!
/in Fulfilled WishesJoyce Carasone, 71, a resident of New Haven, Connecticut, had her wish for a new full-size bed and bedding granted, thanks to our Connecticut chapter. Carasone lives on her own on a fixed income and could not afford to replace her broken, old bed. Having a new bed will improve her quality of life!
Deborah’s wish for a new wig is granted
/in Fulfilled WishesDeborah Ansell, a resident of Connellsville, Pennsylvania, had her simple wish for a new wig granted, thanks to our Fayette County chapter. Ansell, 71, has a history of medical issues and takes medication that has caused excessive hair loss. She is an outgoing person, but her hair loss is affecting her self-esteem. Ansell volunteers as the treasurer of the Connellsville Towers Residents Association where she resides. She also volunteers at other activities including cookie decorating projects and resident dinners. Her wish for a new wig was granted during a wish celebration on March 15, 2024.
Sylvia’s wish to take piano lessons is granted
/in Fulfilled WishesSylvia Starr Smith, a resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, had her wish for piano lessons granted, thanks to our Allegheny County chapter. Smith, 77, lives on her own in a senior high rise building in Pittsburgh. She always wanted to learn to play the piano and was finally taking lessons from another woman in her building. Sadly, that woman passed away unexpectedly in December. Thanks to our Allegheny County chapter, another piano teacher was found to continue Smith’s lessons as they bring her so much joy. Beginning March 12, 2024, piano teacher Cathy Niebel will be visiting Smith at her home to continue her lessons. Thank you to Jackie Hooper from Sound Advice Entertainment for arranging for the lessons.
