Nursing home residents have wish to see Red Sox play granted!
/in Fulfilled WishesFour elderly residents of The Green House Project at Saint Elizabeth Community in East Greenwich, Rhode Island had their wish to attend a Red Sox game at Fenway Park granted, thanks to our Rhode Island chapter. All four men are die-hard Red Sox fans and range in age from 70 to 92. Although they all have medical issues and require wheelchairs to get around, they share a love of baseball and the Red Sox. As part of their wish, Red Sox alumni Sam Horn visited them at their facility, sharing baseball stories and signing autographs for them.
Michael’s simple wish for a working television is granted
/in Fulfilled WishesMichael Harten, a resident of Cumberland, Rhode Island, had his wish for a new television granted, thanks to our Rhode Island chapter. Harten, 66, lives on his own and having a television is more than entertainment for him, it keeps him company. Because he lives on a fixed income, he could not afford a new one on his own. Until his retirement in 2019, Harten worked in Human Services for over 35 years. His simple wish was granted on Friday, May 10th, 2024.
A simple wish for Gertrude is granted
/in Fulfilled WishesGertrude Cabrol, a resident of Pawtucket Falls Health Center in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, had her wish to have her personal items transported to her new facility granted, thanks to our Rhode Island chapter. Cabrol, 67, had been living in an assisted living facility, but after spending time in the hospital, she was moved to the long-term care facility an hour away from her prior home. Cabrol has no family nearby to assist with moving her personal items to her new facility. Luckily, her social worker reached out to our Rhode Island chapter to see if they could assist with this wish. Not only did the Rhode Island chapter move her belongings, but they surprised Cabrol with new clothing, a throw blanket, an Easter basket filled with goodies and Easter flowers.
Nursing home residents visited by petting zoo!
/in Fulfilled WishesThe elderly residents of Waterview Villa Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in East Providence recently had their wish to have a petting zoo visit their facility granted, thanks to our newly formed Rhode Island chapter. Many of these residents are veterans and all have spent their lives in community involvement and volunteer service to others. T & T Fun Farm brought their adorable animals to visit the residents on August 21, 2023. A huge thank you to T & T Fun Farm for greatly discounting the cost of the visit!
Anna V., 93, East Providence, RI
/in Fulfilled WishesAnna Veyera, a resident of Waterview Villa Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in East Providence, RI, had her wish to have a Frank Sinatra/Engelbert Humperdinck impersonator perform for her 93rd birthday party granted, thanks to our Connecticut chapter. Veyera has been a resident of Waterview Villa for several years and is known throughout the facility as a truly generous and loving person. Her nominator wrote: “Anna is the first to reach out to hold anyone’s hand who is struggling and shares her lovely smile with all.” She has a CD player in her room and enjoys the music of both Frank Sinatra and Engelbert Humperdinck the most. Veyera worked as a dental assistant for over 20 years and served as President of the Rhode Island Dental Assistant Society for one year and as Treasurer for two years. After retiring, she sold Avon for ten years. Married for over 65 years, she has one daughter, a granddaughter and three great grandchildren. Veyera was also an award-winning bowler for 63 years!
