Teranell’s wish for a rollator is granted

Teranell Kirksey, 77, a resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, had her wish for a three-wheel rollator granted by our Allegheny County chapter. She lives on her own and needs assistance getting around. Having the rollator will improve her quality of life.

Air Force Veteran has his wish for a new bed and bedding granted

Arthur Merrell, a resident of Pittsburgh, recently had his simple wish for a new twin bed granted, thanks to our Allegheny County chapter. Merrell, 78, is an Air Force veteran who lives on his own. His old mattress was over 40 years old, but because he lives on a fixed income, he could not afford it on his own. Volunteers from the chapter delivered not only a new mattress, box spring and frame, but also new bedding! Merrell was thrilled that the new bedding was navy blue – Air Force colors!

Ella Mae’s wish for coloring supplies and books is granted!

Ella Mae Smith, a resident of Pittsburgh, will have her simple wish for coloring books, word search books, colored pencils and mystery novels granted, thanks to our Allegheny County chapter. Ella Mae, who is 94, lives on her own in senior housing and is homebound. To pass the time and keep her mind off her pain, she loves to color and read. Prior to being homebound, Ella Mae volunteered at the Allentown Senior Center and was active in her building, volunteering at the food bank, in activities, and gardening. Volunteers from the Allegheny Chapter delivered an assortment of books, colored pencils and a lap desk to Smith on October 28^th.

Lewis’s wish for a lift chair is granted

Lewis Bauer, 67, a resident of Pittsburgh, PA, recently had his wish for a lift chair granted by our Allegheny County chapter. Lewis is often in a great deal of pain and has difficulty getting up out of his chair. Having a lift chair will greatly improve his quality of life.

Fran’s wish for a special canopy for her wheelchair is granted!

Fran Kueshner, a resident of Bethel Park, had her simple wish for a canopy for her wheelchair granted, thanks to our Allegheny County chapter. Kueshner, 77, has osteoporosis and osteoarthritis and is confined to a wheelchair. She lives near the Montour Trail and loves to ride her motorized wheelchair there several times a day to enjoy the fresh air, scenery, birds and visit with the people who walk there. Several times, Kueshner has been caught in the rain while out and gotten soaked before she could make it back to her apartment. A canopy for her wheelchair will not only protect her from the rain but will shield her from the summer sun. Kueshner loves being outdoors instead of confined to her apartment so having this wish granted will improve her quality of life.Her friends nominated her for this special wish!

Marta has her wish for a lift chair granted

Marta Konzier, 71, a resident of Pittsburgh, PA, recently had her wish for a lift chair granted by our Allegheny County chapter. Konzier is unable to sleep in her bed because of extreme back and leg pain, so she’s been sleeping on her couch. She lives alone and couldn’t afford the cost of a lift chair on her own. Konzier is very involved in the community: she cooks meals for other residents in her building and she helps deliver food bank food to other residents. Having a lift chair will greatly improve her quality of life.

Della’s wish for comfort is granted

Della Arrington, 92, a resident of Vernon, PA, had her wish for heated massage mat and back support pillow granted by our Allegheny County chapter on December 13, 2020. Della was confined to either her bed or a chair because of her health issues and both items would give her comfort and pain relief. According to her nurse who nominated her for the wish, Della’s favorite thing about having her wish granted was her Twilight Wish certificate. She kept it on the dining room table and would look at it throughout the day, pick it up, read it and smile, saying “I can’t believe that someone thinks I’m special.” Della used the massage mat and back support pillow every day to keep warm and comfortable. Della had lost her husband earlier in the year to COVID and was not well herself. Sadly, she passed away in late January 2021, but did so knowing she was loved and appreciated.

105-year-old finally receives her high school diploma

Theresia Brandl, 105, a resident of Oakdale, Pennsylvania, had her lifelong wish to finally receive her high school diploma granted, thanks to our Allegheny County chapter. Theresia has always regretted that she never graduated from high school. She attended Stowe Township High School, but left before she graduated in order to help take care of her family. Theresia received her diploma during a wonderful graduation celebration in her nursing facility complete with cap and gown on Wednesday, May 17^th. Sadly, Theresia passed away one week after her wish was granted. According to her family, though, she passed away knowing that her final wish was granted.
