Marlene’s wish for a lobster dinner to share with her husband is granted!

Keefe, 86, was a school bus driver for over 25 years and was loved by all the children she drove. Since her retirement, she spends her time knitting blankets for her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Since the pandemic, it has become more difficult for she and her husband to dine out. Having her wish granted made her day!

/in Fulfilled WishesCharles Sabia, 80, a resident of Manchester, Connecticut, had his wish for transportation to his granddaughter’s graduation party granted, thanks to our Connecticut chapter. Sabia is on oxygen 24/7 which makes it difficult for him to travel long distances. They have a very close-knit family, but his illness makes it difficult for them to get together.

/in Fulfilled WishesFrank Tagliatela, a resident of Orange, Connecticut, had his wish to go to the casino for his 101st birthday granted, thanks to our Connecticut chapter. Tagliatela is a WWII veteran who manned anti-aircraft artillery during the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium. He turned 101 on June 3rd and wished to celebrate by visiting a casino one more time. Tagliatela attends the adult day care program at Clelian Center and was nominated for this wish by the financial director there. He was driven by his sons to the Mohegan Sun Casino where they enjoyed lunch at Tuscany Restaurant and then played some slots.
Barnum House Residents, Bridgeport, CT
/in Fulfilled WishesResidents of low-income senior housing Barnum Housing in Bridgeport, Connecticut had their wish for a ferry ride granted, thanks to our Connecticut chapter. Many of the residents only leave their apartments for errands or doctor appointments so being treated to a trip on the water was a nice treat for them. They took the ferry from Bridgeport to Port Jefferson, New York and back, enjoying lunch on the trip. Thank you to the Bridgeport & Port Jefferson Ferry for discounting the tickets for the seniors!

Unfortunately, his world changed when he was told he needs to rely on supplemental oxygen support to survive. He has adjusted to life inside his home, but unfortunately, has been limited with time outside of the home due to the bulkiness and weight of the tanks. His Twilight Wish is to get a portable oxygen machine to be able to enjoy time with his family outdoors. To make this wish come true, we need to raise $2,800 to cover his costs. Please donate today!

St. Joseph Living Center, Windham, CT
/in Fulfilled WishesThe senior residents of St. Joseph Living Center enjoyed a visit from The Farm to Heart Petting Zoo, thanks to our Connecticut chapter. Many of the residents of this facility are retired or sick nuns who have taken a vow of poverty. Throughout their lives, they dedicated themselves to educating children and working in hospitals, food pantries and homeless shelters. As part of National Skilled Nursing Care Week, the petting zoo brought baby animals to the facility for the residents to hold and pet outside on the facility grounds. In addition, there was an ice cream sundae bar set up so that the residents could enjoy ice cream sundaes after they interacted with the animals.

/in Fulfilled WishesRichard Lund, Jr., a resident of Luther Ridge senior living in Middletown, Connecticut, had his wish for art supplies and frames granted, thanks to our Connecticut chapter. Lund, 73, served in the Navy during Vietnam and received both the National Defense Service Medal and Meritorious Unit Commendation. He takes great pride in his artwork and shares his art with other residents by displaying it in the community art gallery at Luther Ridge. Because he lives on a fixed income, Lund is not able to afford the cost of art and framing supplies on his own. His wife recently passed away and his painting is his therapy, contributing positively to his mental and physical health. Lund’s wish was granted on Friday, March 31st.

/in Fulfilled WishesAnna Veyera, a resident of Waterview Villa Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in East Providence, RI, had her wish to have a Frank Sinatra/Engelbert Humperdinck impersonator perform for her 93rd birthday party granted, thanks to our Connecticut chapter. Veyera has been a resident of Waterview Villa for several years and is known throughout the facility as a truly generous and loving person. Her nominator wrote: “Anna is the first to reach out to hold anyone’s hand who is struggling and shares her lovely smile with all.” She has a CD player in her room and enjoys the music of both Frank Sinatra and Engelbert Humperdinck the most. Veyera worked as a dental assistant for over 20 years and served as President of the Rhode Island Dental Assistant Society for one year and as Treasurer for two years. After retiring, she sold Avon for ten years. Married for over 65 years, she has one daughter, a granddaughter and three great grandchildren. Veyera was also an award-winning bowler for 63 years!

Beacon Brook Health Center, Hartford, CT
/in Fulfilled WishesTen residents of Beacon Brook Health Center in Naugatuck, Connecticut, were gifted tablets, thanks our Connecticut chapter Communicative technologies such as tablets allow seniors with dementia the ability to listen to music and to communicate with their families which is beneficial on many levels, especially during COVID and times of isolation. Many of these residents are Veterans who have served in wartime and these items will benefit them and improve their quality of life. Chapter Director Andrea Hoisl presented the residents with the new tablets and cases during a wish granting ceremony in late December during a post-Christmas celebration with snacks and lots of laughter for the residents.
