Joyce’s wish for a new bed and bedding is granted!
/in Fulfilled WishesJoyce Carasone, 71, a resident of New Haven, Connecticut, had her wish for a new full-size bed and bedding granted, thanks to our Connecticut chapter. Carasone lives on her own on a fixed income and could not afford to replace her broken, old bed. Having a new bed will improve her quality of life!
A lifelong dream to see a falcon up close is finally granted
/in Fulfilled WishesJerelyn Fields, a resident of Hartford, had her wish to see a falcon in person granted, thanks to our Connecticut chapter. Fields, 74, has stage 4 pancreatic cancer and is in hospice care. She is a nature lover and is especially fond of birds. Fields always wished she had learned falconry and now, her one wish was to see a beautiful falcon in person and up close. She was a special education teacher for over 41 years and made a difference in many of her students’ lives. Teaching and learning are still very important to her and having the experience of seeing a falcon up close is her greatest wish come true. Thank you to A Place for Hope for bringing a falcon and several other birds to visit Fields at her apartment.
Judith has her wish for a sleigh ride granted
/in Fulfilled WishesJudith Hosack, a resident of The Retreat in Hartford, Connecticut, will have her wish for a horse-drawn sleigh ride granted, thanks to the Connecticut chapter of national nonprofit Twilight Wish Foundation. Hosack, 85, is an active council member and a volunteer at The Retreat where she lives. Because she lives on a fixed income, she does not have the means to do this on her own. Thanks to cooperation from Mother Nature, her wish will finally be able to be granted when she and three friends enjoy a sleigh ride courtesy of Allegra Farms. Jacqueline’s wish for a lift chair is granted
/in Fulfilled WishesJacqueline Duquette, a resident of Ellington, Connecticut, recently had her wish for a lift chair granted by our Connecticut chapter. Duquette, 82, has chronic health issues and had been spending her days in her wheelchair, which is not comfortable. When she was younger, she taught CCD and volunteered with Senior Games in the archery competition. Her daughter nominated her, writing “my mom is the sweetest, kindest, funny lady you will ever meet!” Duquette was thrilled to have this simple wish granted as it will improve her quality of life.
Jelsa’s wish to see Andrea Boccelli in concert was granted!
/in Fulfilled WishesJelsa Casale, a resident of Wethersfield, Connecticut, had her wish to see Andrea Boccelli in concert granted, thanks to our Connecticut chapter. Casale, 81, has not had an easy life, working until she was 77. She loves Andrea Boccelli and knows all the words to his songs! It has been her wish for many years to see him in concert and she will finally have this wish granted!
Chylene has her wish to go to her high school reunion granted
/in Fulfilled WishesChylene Pender, a resident of Hartford, Connecticut, had her wish to attend her high school reunion and visit her hometown one more time granted, thanks to our Connecticut chapter. Pender, 78, had her 60th high school reunion in her hometown of Clay Center, Kansas in late September, but could not afford the cost of travel on her own limited income. She has limited mobility so could not travel on her own either. Thanks to the Connecticut chapter, Pender and her grandson flew out to Kansas and stayed for the weekend to enjoy her reunion festivities. This trip also gave her the chance to visit her parents’ and grandparents’ graves one more time. Pender has been very involved in the community throughout her life. She is currently the Vice President of the GFWC Newington/Wethersfield Woman’s Club and has held various other positions, helping with nearly every fundraiser they have had. In addition, Pender ran the gift shop at Cedarcrest Hospital for eight years prior to its closing. She also volunteered as President of St. Mary’s in Newington for 19 years. She and her grandson flew out September 29th and spent the weekend in Clay Center. Connecticut chapter director, Andrea Hoisl, honored Pender with a wish granting celebration at The Retreat on Tuesday, September 26th.
Erwin’s wish to visit his hometown one more time is granted
/in Fulfilled WishesErwin Williams, a resident of Rocky Hill, Connecticut, recently had his chance to visit his hometown and spend time with his high school friend one more time granted, thanks to our Connecticut chapter. Williams, 65, has several medical issues. He has not been back to his hometown of Tunbridge, Vermont in many years. He wished to visit his mother’s gravesite and also spend time with his best friend of over 60 years ago.
Hartford seniors are treated to Hartford YardGoats game
/in Fulfilled WishesThirty seniors from the Hartford area were treated to a Hartford Yard Goats game, thanks to our Connecticut chapter and NBC CT/Telemundo. The seniors all had a great day! One senior threw out the first pitch and another sang “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh inning stretch.
Marlene’s wish for a lobster dinner to share with her husband is granted!
/in Fulfilled WishesMarlene Keefe, a resident of Amston, Connecticut, had her wish for a lobster dinner for her and her husband in their home granted, thanks to our Connecticut chapter. Keefe, 86, was a school bus driver for over 25 years and was loved by all the children she drove. Since her retirement, she spends her time knitting blankets for her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Since the pandemic, it has become more difficult for she and her husband to dine out. Having her wish granted made her day!
