Barnum House Residents, Bridgeport, CT

Residents of low-income senior housing Barnum Housing in Bridgeport, Connecticut had their wish for a ferry ride granted, thanks to our Connecticut chapter. Many of the residents only leave their apartments for errands or doctor appointments so being treated to a trip on the water was a nice treat for them. They took the ferry from Bridgeport to Port Jefferson, New York and back, enjoying lunch on the trip. Thank you to the Bridgeport & Port Jefferson Ferry for discounting the tickets for the seniors!

Charlene G., 81, Crosby, TX

Charlene Gulley, 81, a resident of Crosby, Texas, recently had her wish to go to an Astros game granted, thanks to our Houston chapter. Gulley lives on her own in senior low-income housing. She has been disabled since she was a child and her constant companion is her small dog, Tinkerbelle, who sits on her lap while she drives her scooter. Gulley is a huge Astros fan and watches every game she can on TV, decked out in her Astros gear. Although she is one of their biggest fans, she has never been to a game in person because of the cost and difficulty with transporting her. Her wish came true on July 5th when she and a few family members saw the Astros play the Colorado Rockies! Special thanks to Gulf Coast Business Credit for donating the tickets for this wish!

Melvin C., 73, Pasadena, TX

Our Houston, Texas chapter recently granted Melvin Charlot’s wish to meet boxers Jermell and Jermall Charlo. Charlot was battling stage 4 pancreatic and colon cancer and was in hospice. On the day he was supposed to meet the brothers, Charlot sadly passed away. Despite her grief, his wife, Barbara and their children, still met with Jermell and Jermall that day.

Leo M., 75, Rockland, MA

Leo Marchand, a resident of South Shore Rehabilitation in Rockland, Massachusetts, had his wish to have dinner with his family at a nearby restaurant granted. Marchand, 75, is a Navy veteran and current resident of South Shore Rehabilitation. He and his wife were driven in style in a limousine to dinner at Stockholders Steakhouse where they enjoyed a lobster and steak dinner with their four children. Thank you to JB Livery for discounting the cost of the transportation and to Stockholders Steakhouse for discounting the cost of dinner.

Joyce B., 86, Gainesville, TX

Joyce Blakely, a resident of Gainesville, Texas, had her wish to attend her family reunion recently granted. Blakely, 86, is a widow and lives on her own. She wished to attend her family reunion as she hadn’t seen many of her family members in over ten years. Blakely had always been very independent and involved in many activities, but since she no longer drives, often feels isolated.

When Blakely was younger, she was involved with Bucknard Orphanage for many years and was instrumental in coordinating holiday home visits for the children there. In addition, Blakely taught special education and children’s Sunday School for many years. Her wish was granted on Sunday, June 11, 2023 when she was picked up in a limousine, along with her children, and driven to her reunion in Lone Oak, Texas. A huge thank you to Jerry Doyle of Veteran’s Executive Limousine Service for transporting Blakely and her family to the reunion free of charge.

Freddie J. is an 86-year-old is a resident of a skilled nursing facility in North Easton, MA. Her favorite thing in the entire world is music! Freddie enjoys tapping along to her favorite songs during musical entertainments, with an ear-to-ear smile on her face. Nominated by her caregiver, Freddie’s Twilight Wish would be to have an Elvis impersonator come in and provide entertainment for her and her fellow residents. Charles G. is a 83-year-old Air Force veteran from the Vietnam era, who was a POW/MIA for 18 months. Unfortunately, his world changed when he was told he needs to rely on supplemental oxygen support to survive. He has adjusted to life inside his home, but unfortunately, has been limited with time outside of the home due to the bulkiness and weight of the tanks. His Twilight Wish is to get a portable oxygen machine to be able to enjoy time with his family outdoors. To make this wish come true, we need to raise $2,800 to cover his costs. Please donate today!

Lois Hofmeister, 80, a resident of Greensburg, PA, had her wish for a new recliner granted by our Westmoreland County chapter. Hofmeister’s old recliner was over 25 years old and no longer worked. Because she lives on a fixed income, she could not afford to replace it on her own. Hofmeister has osteoarthritis and having a recliner that works will improve her quality of life.

Judith Robertson, 81, a resident of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, had her wish for a daybed granted by our Westmoreland County chapter. Robertson’s sister-in-law often visits her and there is no comfortable place for her to sleep. Having a daybed will make their visits more enjoyable and also give Robertson a sofa for her living room.

Uptown String Band Visits Neshaminy Manor

The Uptown String Band performed for the residents of Neshaminy Manor in Warrington during National Skilled Nursing Care Week. Over 100 residents and their family members enjoyed the fun performance thanks to Twilight Wish Foundation and ScanSource.
