Josephine D., 88, Toledo, OH
In Josephine Dresser’s own words: “I adore animals!” Every year, Dresser, a resident of Toledo, OH makes a trip to the Toledo Zoo, which she very much enjoys. However, she has always wanted see the exhibits at the Columbus Zoo, but never had the opportunity. Finally, at the age of 88, her wish came true. Dresser is a World War II veteran who served in the Auxiliary Territorial Service of the British Army, an organization similar to the U.S. Women’s Army Corps. She emigrated to the U.S. in 1953 and has dual British and U.S. citizenship. Dresser and her late husband raised a family together and she worked for years as a legal secretary. For the past 12 years, Dresser has volunteered at Little Sisters of the Poor. Twilight Wish arranged for Dresser to make the trip to the Columbus Zoo on Saturday, September 20, 2014 during Jack Hanna’s Fall Fest. To make her wish even more special, Dresser had a front row seat for Hanna’s 1 p.m. show and met him privately before the show. Special thanks to Jim White Toyota for donating the transportation for Dresser and to the Columbus Zoo for donating the cost of admission and arranging for her to meet Hanna.
