Jeffries has two bad knees and spinal stenosis leaving her with daily pain and limited mobility. Having her wish for a lift chair granted will greatly improve her quality of life and allow her to remain independent. Jeffries was always involved in the community, serving as an associate minister at her church and providing ministry to prisoners in jail. She also served as President of the tenant council at her apartment complex. Her wish was granted on October 18, 2019.

Roush, 78, an Army veteran, is dedicated to staying fit and healthy, despite being an amputee. Having the sit up bar will allow him to continue to exercise and build his strength. Roush has been very involved in the community for years, serving as a volunteer fire fighter in Latrobe and is on the resident council at this facility. His wish was granted on October 2, 2019.

Ida purchased a used lift chair many years ago but it is now falling apart. Because she lives on a fixed income, she couldn’t afford to replace it on her own. Ida volunteers at her building’s food bank and helps other residents clean their apartments when they need to move out. She also knits blankets for her local hospital. Her wish was granted on August 19th.
Helen C., 76, Pittsburgh, PA

Helen, who is 76, has several medical issues that make it difficult for get out of a regular chair. Having an electric lift chair will greatly improve her quality of life and allow her to remain independent.
Karen M., New Castle, PA
/in Fulfilled Wishes/by Mary FarrellKaren Munson, a longtime resident of Haven Convalescent Home in New Castle, Pennsylvania, had her wish to attend Steelers training camp granted, thanks to our Allegheny County, PA chapter. Karen suffered a stroke at the age of 42 and has limited mobility. She has been a resident of Haven for over 11 years and is currently president of the Resident Council there. At the time of her stroke, Karen was working as a full-time registered nurse on a medical/surgical floor and was very active in her church and community. She is a huge, lifelong Steelers fan who never misses watching a game and has her room completely decorated with Steelers gear. Thanks to the efforts of many, her wish to attend training camp was granted on August 14th. Former Steelers quarterback, Bruce Gradkowski, owner of Pilgrimage Hospice, arranged for her to get access to the field where she met many players. In addition, Pilgrimage Hospice presented Munson with a gift basket of Steelers memorabilia. Finally, thank you to ACTS transportation for donating a bus to be used to transport her to camp and to driver Roy Lee for volunteering his time to drive it.

John needed hearing aids, but couldn’t afford them on his own. He is very involved in organizing social activities in the senior community where he lives and struggled to hear others during these activities. John also missed having conversations with his wife because he could not hear her. Thanks to Hearing Unlimited for donating the hearing aids to make his wish come true.
Alva O., 83, Pittsburgh, PA

Alva has an extensive resume which includes counseling women and children in crisis, the homeless and the incarcerated. She has also volunteered with many organizations over the years including Allegheny County Council on Civil Rights, National Alliance to End Homelessness and the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh. Currently, she is the chairperson of the Activity Club at North Allen where she resides. Owens had her wish granted on Saturday, December 15th, just a few days after she turned 83 on December 12th.

John, who recently turned 84, served in the Army for seven years. He always wanted to take his late wife, Betty, to an Andrea Bocelli concert, but could not afford it. She passed away in 2016 after battling diabetes and heart disease most of her life. John was her caregiver and misses her very much. His wish to see Bocelli in concert with his daughter was granted on December 8th.
