Charles Huffman, 76, Feasterville-Trevose, PA
/in Fulfilled WishesCharles “Chip” Huffman, a resident of Feasterville-Trevose, Pennsylvania, had his wish to have an accessibility ramp installed granted, thanks to a collaboration with Fox Rehabilitation and Amramp. Huffman, a Navy veteran, has multiple medical issues and has lost strength in his arms and legs due to nerve damage. He also recently fell and broke his ankle making walking extremely difficult, despite his hard work at trying to improve his mobility and independence. In addition, his wife, Lois, has her own medical issues including a recent hip fracture and surgery. Huffman, 76, relies on a wheelchair to get in and out of his home and having an accessibility ramp will improve his quality of life. Thanks to a generous donor, his wish was granted on Monday, November 14th. Thanks also to Amramp for discounting the cost of the ramp installation.

/in Fulfilled WishesHelen Kasing, a 69-year-old living at Lutheran SeniorLife Passavant in Zelienople, Pennsylvania had her wish to pet and “ride” a horse again granted by our Butler County chapter. Kasing grew up with horses and owned three at one time. She missed being around horses and was thrilled to be entertained by Koda, a mini horse, and taken for a carriage ride by Bella.

/in Fulfilled WishesDorothy Brooks, a resident of Saxonburg, Pennsylvania, had her wish for a reclining lift chair granted, thanks to our Butler County chapter. Brooks, 92, had an old recliner that was over 20 years old that no longer reclined. Because she has coronary heart disease, her legs have a tendency to swell so keeping them elevated is very important. Brooks was a very active member of the Saxonburg Women’s Club and still volunteers at the local library during book sales. Having her wish granted will improve her quality of life.

Sr. Charles Mane has been a Baltic Sister most of her life; she taught music and played the organ at several parishes. Having this phone will enable her to communicate more easily with her family and friends.

Irwin Senior Center, Irwin, PA
/in Fulfilled WishesThe Irwin Senior Center was gifted 30 cardio drumming sets, thanks to our Westmoreland County chapter. The Irwin Senior Center recently opened in the basement of the First United Methodist Church and depends completely on volunteers and donations to run its programs which include crafts, games, musical entertainment, special events and exercise classes. Recently, they held a cardio drumming class and it was the most attended exercise class they have held to date! Cardio drumming is a low-impact workout that people of all ages and fitness levels can do using drumsticks, an exercise ball and a basket to hold the ball.
Henry G., 82, Jacksonville, FL
/in Fulfilled WishesHenry Gagne, a resident of Harbor Chase Senior Living in Jacksonville, Florida, had his wish to bring the circus, and more specifically, clowns, to his facility to entertain the residents grante. Henry, 82, was a professional clown for many years, entertaining countless people in the Jacksonville area. He still loves to dress up in his clown outfit and makeup and perform for the other residents, but this is becoming more difficult for him as he ages. Henry is a Navy veteran who served for 21 years including during the Vietnam War. After his discharge, he married and raised a family of four children with his wife. Henry also financially assisted several needy children with their college educations through a foundation. He is known as one of the kindest residents in his community and loves music, giving little gifts to others and clowning around. Henry’s wish was granted on Sunday, October 9th when he dressed up again and performed with clowns from Gator Clowns. Harbor Chase was decorated like the “big top” and there were circus foods like cotton candy, Crackerjacks, animal crackers and more for the residents to enjoy!

Richard is an Air Force veteran and is the handyman in his senior high rise. He helps all residents in the building with that are in need. Richard’s current recliner lift chair broke and he could not afford to replace it on his own.

/in Fulfilled WishesConnie McClain, 70, a resident of McClellandtown, Pennsylvania, recently had her wish for her own furnished apartment grated by our Fayette County chapter. Connie had been living with her niece and nephew and their six adopted children after being discharged from the nursing home after completing rehab. All she wanted was a place of her own. Connie’s wish was granted when she moved into her apartment in low-income senior housing, but she had very little furniture or household items. Together with her church family at the Uniontown Grace Brethren Church, the Fayette County chapter threw her a housewarming party!
