Paul celebrates his 100th birthday with a visit to the Norman Rockwell Museum!
/in Fulfilled WishesPaul Lynn, a resident of the Southeastern Veterans’ Center in Spring City, Pennsylvania, had his wish to visit the Norman Rockwell and Eric Sloan art museums granted. Lynn, who just turned 100, is a Army veteran who served during WWII. He is known in his facility as being the most positive, upbeat and friendly person. Lynn wished to visit the museums to revisit a kinder, gentler time in America.
Robert’s wish for art and drawing supplies for the blind is granted
/in Fulfilled WishesRobert Moreau, a resident of Murrysville, Pennsylvania, recently had his wish for art and drawing supplies granted, thanks to our Allegheny County chapter. Moreau, a Navy veteran, was a commercial artist for over 50 years. He has both glaucoma and macular degeneration, and it is difficult for him to use regular art supplies. His wish for art and drawing supplies for the blind will allow him to keep doing what he loves!

Chylene has her wish to go to her high school reunion granted
/in Fulfilled WishesChylene Pender, a resident of Hartford, Connecticut, had her wish to attend her high school reunion and visit her hometown one more time granted, thanks to our Connecticut chapter. Pender, 78, had her 60th high school reunion in her hometown of Clay Center, Kansas in late September, but could not afford the cost of travel on her own limited income. She has limited mobility so could not travel on her own either. Thanks to the Connecticut chapter, Pender and her grandson flew out to Kansas and stayed for the weekend to enjoy her reunion festivities. This trip also gave her the chance to visit her parents’ and grandparents’ graves one more time. Pender has been very involved in the community throughout her life. She is currently the Vice President of the GFWC Newington/Wethersfield Woman’s Club and has held various other positions, helping with nearly every fundraiser they have had. In addition, Pender ran the gift shop at Cedarcrest Hospital for eight years prior to its closing. She also volunteered as President of St. Mary’s in Newington for 19 years. She and her grandson flew out September 29th and spent the weekend in Clay Center. Connecticut chapter director, Andrea Hoisl, honored Pender with a wish granting celebration at The Retreat on Tuesday, September 26th.
Bernadine’s wish for a gravestone for her son’s grave is granted
/in Fulfilled WishesBernadine Novak, a resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, had her wish for a gravestone for her son’s grave granted, thanks to our Allegheny County chapter. Novak, 85, gave birth to a baby boy in the 1950s who sadly died at birth. Although he was buried in St. Mary’s Cemetary in O’Hara Township, she was never able to afford a grave marker or tombstone. Sadly, this was not the only heartbreak in Novak’s life. Another son who had Down’s Syndrome passed away from neglect in a state-run home for children with disabilities in the early 1970s. Novak, a single mother raised two other children on her own, and became an advocate fighting for the rights of disabled children in Pennsylvania. Due to her testimony and advocacy, legislation to establish safeguards to protect disabled children was passed. Thank you to Pat Lanigan of Patrick Lanigan Funeral Homes and Kevin Kanak from Ragan Monuments for funding the cost of the tombstone. Thank you also to St. Mary’s Cemetary for waiving their fee for this wish. This very special wish was granted on September 20th on Novak’s 85th birthday.
Erwin’s wish to visit his hometown one more time is granted
/in Fulfilled WishesErwin Williams, a resident of Rocky Hill, Connecticut, recently had his chance to visit his hometown and spend time with his high school friend one more time granted, thanks to our Connecticut chapter. Williams, 65, has several medical issues. He has not been back to his hometown of Tunbridge, Vermont in many years. He wished to visit his mother’s gravesite and also spend time with his best friend of over 60 years ago.
Samuel’s wish for a new mattress is granted!
/in Fulfilled WishesSamuel Taylor, a resident of Braddock, Pennsylvania, recently had his wish for a new queen size mattress granted, thanks to our Allegheny County chapter. Taylor, 80, is battling prostate cancer and recently had heart surgery. Because he lives on a fixed income, he could not afford this mattress which will greatly improve his quality of life. Samuel was a pastor and also ran a food bank and a shelter for the homeless and addicts. He was thrilled to have this wish granted.
Agnese’s wish to have an Italian dinner is granted
/in Fulfilled WishesAgnese Fraioli, a resident of Ocala, Florida, had her wish to have an Italian dinner with her family and friends at her favorite restaurant, Milano Italian Grille granted. Fraioli, 90, lives with her son, Bernardo, who is her caregiver. Her original wish was to travel to see family over the holidays, but she was recently diagnosed with a serious medical condition and can no longer travel. Instead, she was treated to dinner with friends and family at her favorite Italian restaurant. In addition, she and her son were transported in style in a stretch limo to and from the dinner. Thank you to Milano Italian Grille for generously donating the meals for this special wish. Thank you also to Walmart store #5326 for donating a sheet cake to celebrate Fraioli’s wish being granted.
Hartford seniors are treated to Hartford YardGoats game
/in Fulfilled WishesThirty seniors from the Hartford area were treated to a Hartford Yard Goats game, thanks to our Connecticut chapter and NBC CT/Telemundo. The seniors all had a great day! One senior threw out the first pitch and another sang “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh inning stretch.
Nazareth Home residents receive iPads
/in Fulfilled WishesThe residents of Nazareth Home in Louisville had their wish for iPads granted, thanks to our newly-formed chapter in Louisville, Kentucky. Although some residents do have their own tablets, many others do not and wish to use one. Seniors benefit from the use of iPads for battling loneliness and isolation and staying connected with family and friends. This fall, Bellarmine University students will be using them to teach and interact with residents at Nazareth Home. This wish was funded thanks to a grant from ScanSource.
