Vietnam veteran is gifted desktop magnifier

Vincent Vu, a resident of West Hartford, Connecticut, had his wish for a desktop magnifier granted, thanks to our Connecticut chapter and the New England Low Vision and Blindness Association. Vincent, 79, has a B.A. in religious studies from Trinity College and would like to earn a Master’s so he can continue to work in social services for the Vietnamese American community. Because he is legally blind, he needs a desktop magnifier in order to read and complete coursework. Vincent was a Captain in the Republic of Vietnam Army from 1968 – 1975. He was taken as a POW by the Vietnamese Communists and was tortured, causing his legal blindness. A U.S. citizen, Vincent served as an interpreter for Catholic Charities in Hartford for new Vietnamese immigrants for nearly ten years. He is also very involved in his church, volunteering as an altar server, and has been a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1992. Thank you to the New England Low Vision and Blindness Association for their invaluable assistance in researching desktop magnifiers.
