John C, 75, Glassboro, NJ

John C. is a 75-year-old resident of Glassboro, New Jersey. He is a Vietnam Veteran who is in the late stages of COPD. Because of this, he struggles to manage stairs and relies on a walker to get around. His wife, Betsy, is a former RN and his full-time caregiver also struggles to get around. His Twilight Wish is to have a ramp installed at his home to enable to get him to his car safely using his walker, improving the quality of life for both he and his wife.

John C. was nominated by Laura Palmer, his friend and author who wrote “Shrapnel in the Heart, Letters and Remembrances from the Vietnam Veterans Memorial” which traces people who left letters to those killed in Vietnam at the memorial in DC. Palmer interviewed him about the letter he left to his buddy, Eddie Van Every who was killed in action. He offered to help her find people and became her researcher for the book. John C. was then inspired to write and publish his own book, “They Were Ours” which traces many of the Veterans from Gloucester County who served in Vietnam and other wars.  In his younger years when he was in better health, he volunteered at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and was a leader in his church. He also addressed groups at the National Constitution Center and has addressed countless other groups since “They Were Ours” was published.

We need to raise $7,300 to make his wish come true.  Please donate today!
