Christmas in July!

A merry time was had by all at the Christmas in July event at The Retreat in Hartford last week! Thanks to our Connecticut chapter and Connecticut Society of Santas, lots of lucky residents sang Christmas carols, played Christmas trivia and had a Christmas grab! Of course the day was topped off with Christmas cookies and juice!

Selma has her wish for furnishings for her new apartment granted

Selma Johnson-Jackson, a resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, recently had her wish for furniture for her apartment granted, thanks to our Allegheny County chapter and the Blessings Board. Selma, 75, was finally able to get a place of her own, but did not have the funds left to furnish her apartment. Thanks to volunteers from the Allegheny County chapter and the Blessings Board, Selma was able to pick out some items to make her apartment feel like a home.

Barbara’s simple wish is granted

Barbara Malseed, a resident of Portvue, Pennsylvania, recently had her wish for a lift chair granted by our Allegheny County chapter. Barbara, 75, has several back issues and it is difficult for her to get up and down from her current chair. She needed a lift chair, but her insurance would not cover the cost of the chair. Barbara volunteered in her church and was the caregiver for her late husband. She was so happy to have her wish granted!

Blawnox Senior Hi-Rise residents have wish for patio furniture granted

The residents of Blawnox Senior Hi-Rise had their wish for new patio furniture granted, thanks to our Allegheny County chapter. The elderly residents enjoy socializing on their outdoor patio, but their current furniture is falling apart and unable to be used. Because the residents all live on fixed incomes, they could not afford to replace the furniture on their own. The Allegheny County chapter delivered two patio benches and five chairs for the seniors who were thrilled!

Shirley’s wish for a lift chair is granted

Shirley Nulph, a resident of Saxonburg, Pennsylvania, had her wish for a lift chair granted by our Butler County chapter. Shirley, who is 90, had an old recliner but it became unsafe for her to use. She wished for a new recliner so that she could comfortably elevate her legs. Shirley volunteered for many years at her church teaching vacation Bible school.

Tonya has her lifelong wish to visit Graceland granted

Tonya Guy, a resident of Augusta, Georgia, had her wish to visit Graceland granted, thanks to a collaboration between Twilight Wish Foundation and Crescent Hospice. Guy, 68, has loved and listened to Elvis her whole life. Now in hospice care, her wish is to finally visit Graceland. Guy was very involved in her church, volunteering at community events. Her wish was granted when she and her daughter made the trip from Augusta to Memphis from June 17 – June 20, 2024.

Joe has his wish to visit Yankee Stadium granted

Salvatore “Joe” Magano, a resident of Durham, Connecticut, recently had his wish to visit Yankees stadium and tour the clubhouse granted, thanks to our Connecticut chapter. Joe, 80, has COPD and needs a wheelchair or walker to get around. In years past, he and his wife took the train from Connecticut but that is no longer possible. The New York Yankees rolled out the blue carpet for Joe and his family! Not only did they get to tour the clubhouse and field, but he got to try on World Series rings and hold Babe Ruth’s baseball bat! It was a day they will never forget! Joe is truly deserving of this wish as he worked as a counselor for many years with the homeless and addicted. Thank you New York Yankees for making this amazing wish possible!

Residents of Rocky Hill Veterans Home treated to YardGoats game

Fifteen residents of the Rocky Hill Veterans Home recently were treated to box seats at a Hartford YardGoats game, thanks to our Connecticut chapter and NBC CT/Telemundo. It was Veterans Appreciation Night at the ballpark and the veterans were so happy to be honored for their service.

Joyce has her wish for a lift chair granted

Joyce Irish, a resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, recently had her wish for a new lift chair granted, thanks to our Allegheny County chapter. Joyce, who is 87, has several medical issues including osteoarthritis and asthma, needed a comfortable reclining lift chair that she could sleep and sit comfortably in and would allow her to get to a standing position on her own. Her old chair was unusable and unsafe and Joyce was always afraid she would fall out of it. Now that she has a new, comfortable one, her quality of life has been greatly improved!

Sharon has her wish for a lift chair granted

June 24, 2024/in Fulfilled Twilight Wishes

Sharon Seeno, a resident of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, had her wish for a lift chair granted, thanks to our Westmoreland County chapter. Sharon, 70, was recently diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and it is difficult for her to get up from her chair. Having a lift chair will greatly improve her quality of life.
