/in Fulfilled Wishes/by Mary FarrellRita Miller, 79, a resident of Daughter’s of Israel nursing facility in West Orange, New Jersey, had her wish for a computer screen magnifier granted on November 8, 2011 during a presentation at her nursing facility. Miller wished for a computer screen magnifier so that she could see the computer screen, allowing her to email her family and have access to the internet. Thanks to the elder care law firm, Hauptman and Hauptman of Livingston, New Jersey, who funded Miller’s wish. Miller was presented with the magnifier and a certificate honoring her and commemorating the event by Twilight Wish New Jersey regional director, Sally Buonomo, and Yale Hauptman, Hauptman and Hauptman P.C.
Mina M., 102, Irvington, NJ
/in Fulfilled Wishes/by Mary FarrellMina Mandel, 102, a resident of Irvington, New Jersey, had her wish for lunch at The Manor restaurant in West Orange, New Jersey granted, thanks to the New Jersey chapter of national nonprofit Twilight Wish Foundation.
Mandel’s wish was to have lunch at The Manor with several of her favorite caregivers. Joining her were Bonnie Caterson, her Clinical Manager from Bayada Nurses, LaVonne Sweet, her Home Health Aide, MaryAnn Weber, her Nurse Practitioner, and Sally Buonomo, Regional Director for the New Jersey chapter of Twilight Wish Foundation. In honor of the special occasion, Mandel had her hair and nails done. Special thanks to The Manor who donated the entire meal and to LifeStar who donated the cost of transportation to and from the lunch.
“I was so happy to be there,” said Mandel. “It had been over 20 years since I had eaten there and everything was wonderful!”
Emma T., 81, Wayne, NJ
/in Fulfilled Wishes/by Robin KardaneEmma T., 82, wished to treat her brother, Carmen, to dinner for his birthday and to thank him for all he has done for her. Her poignant wish came true on Carmen’s birthday, July 24th, when they and his wife, Irene, enjoyed a celebratory birthday dinner at Francesco’s Restaurant in Woodland Park, New Jersey. In honor of this very special occasion, Emma got a new outfit and had her hair and nails done. This wish was granted thanks to a generous donation from CareOne. CareOne, a senior care company, held fundraisers at all nine of its Bergen County facilities this summer to benefit Twilight Wish Foundation and assist in granting wishes in New Jersey. Thomas W., 69, Irvington, NJ
/in Fulfilled Wishes/by Robin KardaneThomas, a former long distance truck driver, has lawn furniture in his living room. His wish was for a lift chair to allow him to maintain his independence. He now has several medical issues that limit his mobility, making it difficult for him to remain independent. His nursing supervisor from Bayada Nurses submitted the wish on his behalf, requesting an electric lift chair that would make it easier for him to get up and out of his chair more frequently. His simple wish came true on Saturday, June 11, 2011.

Carolyn, 88, West Orange, NJ
/in Fulfilled Wishes/by Robin KardaneCarolyn was born with multiple sclerosis and now resides in a New Jersey nursing home. Her one love in life has always been opera. She watches opera performances on tv and has several CD’s that she listens to over and over again. Her wish is to see either La Boheme or Tosca at the Metropolitan Opera.
Thanks to our New Jersey Chapter and the Metropolitan Opera, Carolyn was able to attend a matinee performance of La Boheme on 12/4/10! After the performance, she and her companions were treated to dinner at Pal’s Cabin in West Orange.
Violet, 77, West Orange, NJ
/in Fulfilled Wishes/by Robin KardaneViolet has not been able to return to her husband’s grave since he was buried 19 years ago in Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Veterans Cemetery. The cemetery is located in Wrightstown, NJ, nearly an hour and a half from her home in West Orange. Robinson doesn’t drive and suffers from several medical conditions. She has no family or friends nearby to drive her. Her wish to visit her husband’s grave was granted on May 29, 2010 thanks to our New Jersey Chapter.

/in Fulfilled Wishes/by Robin KardaneEvery Wednesday for almost 30 years, Helen would visit the residents of a New Jersey nursing home to play board games, read newspapers or books to those who could not see or just sit and talk. She now suffers from back pain and would love a comfortable chair.
Helen’s wish was granted on November 4, 2011 when our New Jersey chapter presented her with a new chair and ottoman!

/in Fulfilled Wishes/by TWF Site AdministratorThree elderly residents of North Brunswick, New Jersey, recently had their wish for the gift of hearing aids granted, thanks to our New Jersey Chapter and Zounds Hearing, Inc. Veronica, 91, Betty, 89, and Catherine, 93, all reside in North Brunswick Senior Housing, and are active volunteers at the North Brunswick Senior Center.
The women were fitted with their new hearing aids at the Zounds Hearing stores in Mount Laurel, New Jersey and Bensalem, Pennsylvania in early 2010.
