Executive Director

I. Organizational Overview

Twilight Wish Foundation (TWF)is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to honoring and enriching the lives of seniors through intergenerational wish granting celebrations. Since its founding in 2003, the Foundation has granted more than 7,250 wishes to deserving seniors and veterans who have spent their lives giving back to their communities. Our vision is to make the world a nicer place to age-one ‘Twilight Wish’ at a time.

The TWF operates through four Core Programs: Simple Needs, Celebrating a Life, Living Life to the Fullest, and Veterans’ Wishes. With 20 volunteered chapters nationwide, the TWF is uniquely positioned to elevate the dignity, visibility, and joy of the “forgotten” elder generation.

II. Position Summary

The Executive Director (ED) is the chief administrative, strategic, and external affairs leader of the TWF. Overall reporting to the Board of Directors (directly to the Chairperson of the Board), the ED oversees national operations, fundraising, chapter support, and overall mission delivery.

This is a multi-dimensional leadership role with four explicit performance domains, each requiring demonstrated experience:

  • Administrative Leadership: Oversee and modernize the overall operations, systems, and staff support.
  • Fundraising & External Relations: Serve as the organization’s lead fundraiser and National Ambassador, driving major gifts, corporate partnerships, and national visibility.
  • Chapter Support & Network Development: Provide executive level guidance, tools, and alignment for 20 volunteer Chapter Leaders nationwide.
  • Strategic Plan Execution: Partner with the Board to implement a multi-year strategic plan focused on growth, sustainability, and national impact.

The ED must be an experienced nonprofit professional capable of balancing these interconnected domains with maturity, judgment, and strategic clarity.

III. Key Responsibilities

  1. Strategic Leadership & Governance
  • Lead overall development and execution of the 3-5  year strategic plan, including chapter strengthening, national fundraising, brand visibility, and partnership development.
  • Establish a strong relationship with the Board Chair and committees, ensuring clarity of roles and transparent communication.
  • Modernize governance practices to support future growth, including policy updates, committee structures, and performance dashboards.
  • Build a unified organizational culture rooted in compassion, accountability, and excellence across staff and volunteers.
  1. Fundraising & Resource Development
  • Serve as the Foundation’s Chief Fundraiser, driving major gifts, corporate sponsorships, foundation grants, including planned and sustained growth.
  • Build a national fundraising strategy aligned with TWF’s revenue model, including chapter driven fundraising, corporate partnerships, and national campaigns.
  • Cultivate relationships with senior serving industries (senior living, healthcare, Medicare Advantage, pharmacy, life sciences, etc.) to secure multiyear regional and/or national partnerships.
  • Develop a donor stewardship model that strengthens retention and deepens donor engagement.
  • Support the long-term financial vision by building reserves and exploring endowment feasibility.
  1. Program Management & Chapter Oversight
  • Ensure the Wish Committee upholds high standards regarding wish eligibility, documentation, and mission integrity.
  • Conduct a national chapter health assessment and implement a “Chapter Success Framework” to ensure consistency, sustainability, and growth.
  • Reactivate dormant chapters (where appropriate) and support the launch of new chapters in high impact regions, including identity based and culturally specific chapters.
  • Provide executive level coaching, training, and problem-solving for 20 volunteer-run chapters.
  • Strengthen the Intergenerational Education Program (IEP) to deepen connections between youth and seniors nationwide.
  1. Operational & Financial Stewardship
  • Provide targeted operational leadership to headquarters support staff as needed, maintain continuity, and support continued stabilization during transition.
  • Work closely with CFO regarding budget oversight, financial reporting, audits, and investment of funds in partnership with the Board Treasurer and Finance Committee.
  • Maintain adherence to 501(c)(3) regulations, State Charitable Registrations, and IRS Form 990 requirements.
  • Modernize infrastructure, including Donor Perfect optimization, and digital Wish Applications.
  • Develop Donor Management Systems and Chapter Toolkits for overall continuity nationwide.
  • Build financial controls, reserves, and multi-year budgeting practices aligned with the strategic plan.
  1. Public Advocacy, Partnerships & Communications
  • Serve as the National Spokesperson for the TWF, elevating visibility through media engagement, storytelling, and public speaking.
  • Refresh messaging and brand presence to reflect the next era of TWF, including digital strategy and national storytelling pipelines.
  • Build alliances with Senior Centers, National and Regional Healthcare Systems, LGBTQ+ Organizations, Faith Communities, Civic Groups, and National Aging Networks.
  • Position the TWF as a unifying force in the senior service ecosystem, emphasizing collaboration for the unified goal of improving seniors’ lives.
  • Develop a National Partnership Strategy that expands reach, credibility, and revenue.

IV. Requirements & Qualifications

Experience & Education

  • Previous progressive nonprofit and/or fundraising experience, including demonstrated success in Major Gifts and/or Corporate Partnerships.
  • Experience cultivating or managing relationships with Senior Executives in healthcare, senior living, and/or related sectors.
  • Planned giving experience is preferred but not required, however, willingness to grow in this area is essential.
  • Experience supporting and/or leading multisite, volunteer driven, and/or chapter based organizations is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree in Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Business, or related field preferred.

Technical & Professional Skills

  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and nonprofit compliance.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to inspire donors, volunteers, and public audiences.
  • Experience with CRM systems (Donor Perfect preferred), digital fundraising tools, and modern nonprofit technology.
  • Ability to manage and guide remote teams and volunteer leaders with empathy, clarity, strategic direction, and accountability.
  • Skilled in Partnership Development across sectors including healthcare, senior living, aging services, and community organizations.

V. Location & Work Environment

  • The ED must maintain regular, meaningful interaction with the TWF headquarters support staff and be available for periodic on-site visits for staff support, events, and operational needs as determined by the Board of Directors.
  • This role supports a hybrid, flexible work environment aligned with modern nonprofit leadership norms.

VI. Compensation

  • $80,000 base salary, along with the following:
    • Performance based bonus potential tied to fundraising outcomes.
    • Monthly travel allowance for business-related travel.
