Karen M., New Castle, PA
Karen Munson, a longtime resident of Haven Convalescent Home in New Castle, Pennsylvania, had her wish to attend Steelers training camp granted, thanks to our Allegheny County, PA chapter. Karen suffered a stroke at the age of 42 and has limited mobility. She has been a resident of Haven for over 11 years and is currently president of the Resident Council there. At the time of her stroke, Karen was working as a full-time registered nurse on a medical/surgical floor and was very active in her church and community. She is a huge, lifelong Steelers fan who never misses watching a game and has her room completely decorated with Steelers gear. Thanks to the efforts of many, her wish to attend training camp was granted on August 14th. Former Steelers quarterback, Bruce Gradkowski, owner of Pilgrimage Hospice, arranged for her to get access to the field where she met many players. In addition, Pilgrimage Hospice presented Munson with a gift basket of Steelers memorabilia. Finally, thank you to ACTS transportation for donating a bus to be used to transport her to camp and to driver Roy Lee for volunteering his time to drive it.
