Celebrating 100 years old in style
Richard Fida, a resident of Norristown, Pennsylvania, was surprised with an “Old New York”-themed birthday party for his 100th birthday. Richard served in the Marines during WWII, earning the Purple Heart. After his honorable discharge in 1946, he began working for the Pennsylvania Railroad, training passenger conductors. He retired from the railroad when he was 65 but wanted to continue working so he took a job at Strawbridge’s which was then bought by Macy’s. Richard worked at Macy’s part-time as a makeup artist and later sold jewelry for 26 years, retiring at the age of 91. He and his wife, Carli (who he met while working at Macy’s), are very involved members of the Norristown center and never miss the live “Music Magic” program every Wednesday. Richard loves Frank Sinatra and dancing and, even at the age of 100, is able to dance with his wife unassisted. To celebrate this deserving man’s birthday, Twilight Wish and SAAC surprised Richard with a Frank Sinatra impersonator and a catered Italian meal for him and the other members.
