Katharyn R., 84, Levittown, PA
/in Fulfilled Wishes/by Mary FarrellKatharyn Reid, 84, has been an avid Eagles’ fan for decades, even painting her living room “Eagles’ Green.” This mother of eight, grandmother of 13, great-grandmother to 17, with one more great-grandchild and one great-great-grandchild on the way, is well known in her family for her loyalty to her beloved Eagles. In fact, there is “no chit-chatting allowed” by her during the games. Sadly, Reid is battling brain cancer and currently undergoing chemotherapy. To boost her spirits, her daughter, Nancy Sherlock, submitted a wish request on her behalf, writing that a visit from a Philadelphia Eagles’ player would provide a much-needed respite from her medical treatments. When the Eagles heard of Reid’s story, they jumped at the chance to brighten this deserving senior’s day and arranged to have Eagles great Mike Quick and an Eagles’ cheerleader visit Reid and make her wish come true. The Eagles’ organization also arranged to have Jeremy Maclin record a special video message just for Reid which was shown to her that day. During the visit, Quick called his broadcasting partner, Merrill Reese, and put him on speaker so that Reid could talk to him. Thanks to the Philadelphia Eagles and Mike Quick for granting this special lady’s wish!
Paul S., 69, Nazareth, PA
/in Fulfilled Wishes/by Mary FarrellTwilight Wish recently granted the wish of Paul Storm, 69, an avid fan of Nascar and the New York Giants and Mets. Storm served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and, upon returning home, remained involved by being a commander and active member of his local VFW. Until his recent diagnosis of terminal cancer, Storm worked in maintenance at Lafayette College for over 30 years. While he and his wife never had children of their own, the students at Lafayette became like his children. To boost his spirits, his social worker, Joanne Kozak, submitted a wish request on his behalf, writing that a visit from a New York Giants’ player would boost his spirits and give him something to look forward to. Although we weren’t able to arrange a visit, Giants rookie Justin Pugh videotaped a personal message to Storm and sent him an autographed pair of training gloves which Storm loved. Sadly, Storm passed away a few days after his wish was granted.

St. Joseph’s Home for the Elderly Bell Choir, Totowa, NJ
/in Fulfilled Wishes/by Michelle BowrenThanks to a very generous donor, the members of the St. Joseph’s Home for the Elderly Bell Choir had their wish granted!
The members of the choir have lived their lives in support of their families, their churches and their communities. They have all made sacrifices to care for others and are residents at St. Joseph’s Home due to their financial needs. The choir practices weekly and performs at many events. They do not get the chance to leave the home very often and wish to go as a group to see a show at their local playhouse and enjoy a lunch together. We need to raise $1,000 to cover the cost of this outing. Please donate today to help make their wish come true!

Fanny H., 84, Lower Burrell, PA
/in Fulfilled Wishes/by Mary FarrellFanny Hughes, 84, recently had her wish for hearing aids granted, thanks to the Western Pennsylvania Chapter of Twilight Wish Foundation and the generosity of HearWell Center of Forest Hills. Hughes, a resident of Lower Burrell, needed hearing aids, but couldn’t afford the cost on her fixed income. Thanks to Dr. Suzanne Yoder, audiologist and owner of HearWell Center who donated the cost of the hearing aids, Hughes’ wish came true. Her quality of life will now be greatly improved as Hughes can now talk on the phone, be a part of conversations and communicate more clearly. In her younger years, Hughes was very active in her family church, First Baptist Church in New Kensington, where she sang in the choir and was involved in the missionary program. When her health allows, Hughes still participates in a weekly bible study group at her senior housing complex. Pictured, Fanny Hughes with Dr. Suzanne Yoder.
